Wrapped up for the cold weather
Wow, it’s got cold! But, I’ve been determined not to let that stop me from getting out on my bike. Ok, so I really didn’t want to go out for a cycle ride but I know these are the days that it’s even more important for me to push myself harder. So, I wrapped myself up in extra layers and headed out. I’ve got thick gloves to stop my fingers getting sore and stiff and Proskins leggings to act as a base layer. I’d wear a hat under my helmet to keep my ears warm but I’m a little nervous that I wouldn’t be able to hear any cars overtaking me. Probably for the best that I leave them out in the cold until I get my confidence up a bit more.
I actually managed two trips out over the weekend (actually a long weekend – one ride of 11miles on Friday and one of nearly 8miles on Sunday). It definitely helped that they were nice, bright days, with clear blue skies. I may have seen ice at the side of the road (yes, really!) but at least it wasn’t raining. And even though the distances aren’t building up quite as much as I’d hoped, I still felt proud that I’d pushed myself to go out. I was very glad to get back home though – especially as my toes felt like they’d been turned into blocks of ice! Think I’m going to have to invest in some warmer socks if these feet are going to keep me pedalling…
