I make friends with Pilates

Karen Gower Karen: getting to grips with exercise

We’ve cranked up the exercise this week, so as well as my session with Jane and my runs and resistance band workouts on my own, I’ve also been along to Jane’s Pilates class. It was pretty daunting at first – I’ve never done anything like Pilates before, and many of the other women in the class seemed to know what they’re doing. I’m hoping it won’t take me too long to master the moves.

I’ve never really exercised at night before – I normally like to get my workouts done during the day, so I can go home and relax, but I was surprised at how chilled out I felt after Pilates – I had the best night’s sleep afterwards.

I’m getting to grips with my resistance band now too, and I felt so proud of myself after doing a few laps of the park the other night.

I’m starting to get into a routine – planning social events around my workouts and taking food with me to work, so I don’t have to worry about making healthy choices.

But I’ve got my best friend’s wedding coming up and I know the champagne will be flowing. I’ve been looking forward to it for over a year and I’m determined to enjoy myself. I just hope it doesn’t put too much of a spanner in the weight-loss works – wish me luck!
