Week 3 - PT session 3! It has been more difficult to get back into it this week with the spot of "feeling a bit run down" running around at the moment - which I think I caught on Sunday night.
Anyhow since my PT session is now strictly on Mondays, I had no choice but to battle on through - and to be honest it was really hard. Each week Demi is pushing me harder and harder, intensifying my workouts. She firmly but fairly makes sure I don't get complacent and keeps me guessing what the next torture chamber is going to consist of.
So during our last 2 sessions we have been focusing a lot on supersets and interval training. Supersets are apparently fantastic if you want to increase the intensity of your workout in a short amount of time, keeping your body guessing and hitting different muscle groups, which is supposedly the way forward when you really want to change your body shape, as I do.
This time the rower came into action which is my most dreaded machine but working on it intensively over 5 minutes is great as it works the whole body, increasing your upper body strength and getting your heart rate lifted in 30sec sprints / 30 seconds rest. I can tell you that 4 mins into it I was certainly blowing out of ears, and even praying for the Kettle bell wide squats, planks, Russians twists...anything else please, to begin!
We've also moved on with the kit around the gym and I am getting to used to using equipment I'd never dare to touch previously. We're using still using the dumbbells and medicine balls as before but now we're venturing into the realms of kettle bells, ViPRs, and some of the bigger, more stationary machines.
Demi is really encouraging on the other aspect of my challenge too and constantly comes up with nutrition ideas - giving me clever ways of including protein and my maxitone protein shakes in to my diet. I feel I have got the food side of this challenge under control and my appetite has settled, and now my attitude to eating and my eating habits are changing too - I feel full and content and really not missing those usual treats around the office.
The best part of the session, in fact the highlight of my whole entire week of working out is when my PT session comes to an end and Demi kindly stretches me out - it is fantastic and you can really feel a stretch beyond anything you'd achieve on your own - it is a fantastic release at the end of a hard work out and well worth all the money!!
Exercise and stretching combined, I felt more revived, if not 100% better than when I began the session.
Erica: "Disappointingly I've developed a slight twinge in my knee - possibly due to dancing on saturday night, or from doubling up my exercise dvd with cycling to work, so I'm resting it so that I don't damage it further. Will be back on track tomorrow though - even if strapped up in a leg support!"
Lyndsey: "Note to self: Apply waterproof mascara on days when you've got a lunchtime class booked. I just came out of my TRX class looking like a panda. Oh the SHAME! Make-up faux pas aside, TRX was far tougher than I anticipated but the lovely instructor made it fun – and helped me out with the equipment changes whenever I was standing looking baffled..."
