Lyndsey: week 1

Usually, I spend Monday afternoons trying to psych myself for an evening gym session when all I really want to do is crawl home and watch EastEnders in my PJs. But there'll be no gym-dread today because I've already done my workout - and it's not even 3pm! Today during my lunch break, instead of wandering aimlessly around Boots looking at lipsticks, I went to a Zumba class and am now back at my desk eating my well-deserved lunch and feeling oh-so gym smug.

The Third Space gym is just a few minutes walk from the Zest office, so it's perfect for an efficient lunch-hour workout - especially because of the huge array of lunchtime classes on offer. Admittedly, it was a bit of a rush: it was my first visit to a new gym so finding the changing rooms, mastering the locker system and locating the workout studio all took longer than I'd planned for, but now I'm familiar with everything, I'm sure it'll be a quicker process on my next visit. I opted for a Zumba class to start me off - I've heard so much about this Latin-inspired fitness craze and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. And I'm a total convert! It was far more energetic that I'd anticipated, leaving me feeling like I'd really been put through my paces, but most importantly, it was FUN! I spend the whole session laughing - it didn't feel like exercise at all, and because the focus was on having a giggle and shaking your booty rather than perfecting the routine, the time flew by.

So here I am, worked out, refreshed and able to tick one exercise session off the list for this week already. And what's even better is that I can head straight home at 5.30pm, plant myself on the sofa and watch EastEnders totally guilt-free and safe in the knowledge Erica's bounding round her living room to her DVD and Katie's being put through hell by her PT. Mwahahaha!

Ok, I want to drop 7 lbs this month, but without access to the gym. I plan on doing my wii and gentle walking as I'm recovering from a broken ankle and extensive ligament damage.

I also plan on reducing my carb intake as bread, pasta, potatoes are my biggest downfall.

My start weight is 13st 10 (aarghhh)! Wish me luck

Good for you Lyndsey and good luck.

I started the year on 13st 10 and I am now 13.3 1/2 (as of last Thursday).  I am really trying hard to make changes as I can't give up on it this year.  I also took measurements (in inches) and so far have lost over 2 inches from my waist so the measurements are keeping me motivated when the scales don't do what I want.

I am glad you are taking it carefully where you are recovering from injury, there is no point causing more damage but the small things should make the difference.. keep us all posted

I am looking forward to seeing the results of this challenge. As someone who lacks the budget for gym membership or a personal trainer(!) I am a big fan of exercise at home.

I use Rosemary Conley DVDs 2-3 times a week, do a lot of walking and some Wii exercise games - I like My Fitness Coach: Dance Workout and Just Dance 1 and 2! During November last year I lost 5lbs through exercising at home and have maintained this loss.
