Challenge blog: 18 Oct - A nice time of year to run

It's only taken six weeks, but I'm starting to enjoy running

As someone who skived off games at school and would do literally anything to get out of cross country, I never thought the day would come - but this morning, half way through my run, I suddenly realised I was enjoying it.

The sun was out, the leaves starting to turn colour and fall, and Doves' Kingdom of Rust blasting out of my iPod - and I thought to myself, this is a nice way to spend half an hour.

So there we go. A breakthrough. Whether I'll feel the same when I have to run 10k remains to be seen, but at least I won't be thinking up excuses about verrucas or hiding in the school toilets...

I remember a few years back running for exactly 6 minutes round the block and being in agonising pain for the following THREE days. Last weekend I ran my first 5 mile fun run. It's taken me a while to enjoy it, but now I cannot imagine without running! When you've discovered the famous runner's Zone you'll be hooked for life. I'll definitely be taking up the 10k challenge; what a great idea! Abd don't forget, smaller quicker sdteps on the balls of one's feet :-)
Xanna.

You've convinced me - I'll be going home tonight and pulling on the trainers, wrapping up very warm and pretending that today is Monday with a 20 min walk. I'm impressed that you've gone from pain to enjoyment in 6 weeks and fancy me some of that too - well done!

Ah, thanks for your support Anna and Rachel. Anna - I'm v impressed about your 5 mile fun run. What's this about little steps on the balls of the feet though? Is this some secret I don't know about?! Will it make it easier???
Rachel - did you get your trainers on? Let me know how you get on. I can honestly say the whole running thing has been a bit of a revelation for me, so hope it's the same for you.

I have been back into running since the early Summer, and only since a cold three weeks ago and then a holiday have I felt like I have feel away from my routine. Now with dark nights I have been putting off heading out over the past three days.

Having read your comments...I realise that I need to make myself get out and I will feel so much better once I do.

 Cheers
