Week 1: getting started
I had my beautiful baby boy, Dan, four months ago and so far so good. He's a remarkably easy and happy baby so I'm very pleased to report that we seem to be getting a relatively easy ride.
One of my big concerns since his birth however, has been my weight. Through my pregnancy I wasn't very strict with my diet, during the first trimester I was ravenous all the time and for the rest of the pregnancy I craved sweet things. It didn't help that the ever increasing readout on the bathroom scales felt somewhat abstract, it was really difficult to know how much of it was me and how much was the baby. In the back of my mind I knew I was probably eating more than I needed but it was easy to ignore, especially as my growing belly was for once a source of pride. Some of the extra pounds have already fallen away but I'm still a stone heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight, which has left me feeling like I'm not quite myself.
So, to help me get my pre-pregnancy body back and keep me on the straight and narrow I signed up to Zest's 6-week challenge to lose my post-baby weight. My main motivation was knowing that, if I was under the beady eye of Zest readers, I'd surely stick to the eating and exercise plan. A few years ago, I successfully lost 4 stone over about 3 years, so I'm determined not to let motherhood set me back, but if any of you have baby weight to lose too then it would be great if you'd join me, let me know how you're getting on and compare tips and results. I know your support and camaraderie will really help me stay on track.
