Zest tests London vegetarian eatery tibits to find nosh that appeals to both meat eaters and veggies alike
When we discovered Europe’s oldest vegetarian restaurant just around the corner from Zest HQ, we simply had to pop in to sample some of their world famous nosh – all in the name of research, of course.
As soon as we walked through the door and were greeted with a buffet containing more than 40 hot and cold veggie dishes like broccoli in chilli-fruit dressing or Thai tofu salad for eating in or taking away, we knew we’d found the perfect place to reclaim our lunch break.
All about delivering delicious and healthy vegetarian fare to customers quickly, Tibits is not only a local favourite here in London but a sister restaurant to leading European vegetarian eatery Hiltl, which has been feeding and impressing the veggie masses since 1898.
Benefiting from more than a century of experience in the vegetarian game, tibits doesn’t disappoint. Presented with so many choices, us Zesties decided to go all out (again, in the name of research) and nosh as much as our bellies would allow. We piled vegetable chili, celery salad, falafel, hummus, linseed rolls and sweet potato papaya curry onto our plates and headed out to the leafy patio to enjoy our meals in the catch-it-while-you-can sun.
As we sipped our ginger lemonades, manager Edmund explained how each dish is made in small quantities to ensure the best possible flavour, and our tastebuds agreed. Everything was fresh, perfectly spiced and oh so healthy. And although we’ve been known to enjoy a nice pork or fish dish here at Zest, the food was so flavourful and nourishing we didn’t even miss the meat.
Then, because we're such hard workers, we went back to the buffet to sample the puddings. Despite being full to the brim, we somehow managed to fit in passionfruit cheesecake, fudge brownies with dates, sticky toffee pudding, plus fresh mango and strawberries. It's a tough job.
As we waddled out of tibits and waved goodbye to the lovely staff, we promised to visit again. Is tomorrow too soon?
