Until now it's been over-10s only, but now children as young as four can enjoy a treetop high-wire adventure
We all love a trek through the forest with the family, but sign up for a Go Ape! adventure, and you get a squirrel's eye view of the woodlands.
Until now, children haven't been able to take part, but with the opening of the tree-top adventure company's first course for under 10 year olds, there's no excuse not to rope in the little ones too.
We tried out the junior - Explorer - course at Go Ape!'s base at Moors Valley Country Park, near Bournemouth - on the day it opened, and loved it.
It's exhilarating yet safe; all explorers wear a helmet and harness, and you're attached to a continuous cable that takes you from ground level up ladders, across wobbly bridges, scramble nets and ultimately down a thrilling zip wires, with no hooking on or off - so no chance of accidentally becoming detached.
It was safe enough that I was happy for my nine and six year olds to whizz ahead and complete the course on their own. The hardest part? Celia, aged six, found the treetop scramble net quite challenging - not scary but tiring on the arms.
And the best bit? Everyone agreed it was the zip wire - 'If only it was longer,' according to Oliver, nine.
Go Ape! Explorer is open to children aged four and over (minimum height 1m) and currently Moors Valley Park near Bournemouth is the only Go Ape! site that offers this facility for young children. Look out for others as they open in other sites across the country.
Cost: £15 per person for an hour of treetop fun. Book in advance.
