Estee Lauder's Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign launches 11th anniversary of its global landmark illumination initiative
Despite the cold and drizzle, it was all glamour at Harrods last night as Estee Lauder turned London's iconic shopping mecca pink, to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness month. The switch was flicked by Estee Lauder spokesmodel and former Zest cover star and guest editor Elizabeth Hurley, who has spent the last few weeks travelling the globe raising awareness for the cause.
Even though we were all dressed for a cocktail party - dress code glam with a hint of pink - the VIP crowd stood patiently in the drizzle and even donned pink 3D glasses which gave the illuminations an extra special sparkle! Inside, Elizabeth spoke movingly about the hundreds of people she has met over the last few weeks on the breast cancer campaign trail, and was moved to tears when recounting how one man had even had the Pink Ribbon logo tattooed on his chest in memory of his wife. This year, Estee Lauder, who launched the Pink Ribbon scheme back in 1992 and have handed out over 110 million worldwide to date, have two limited edition collections for 2010: the Elizabeth Hurley Lip Collection with two double-ended lipglosses in a mock-croc clutch, and the Evelyn Lauder Lip Collection with three lipsticks, both £25 (£7.50 from each purchase goes to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation).
In October 2009, Elizabeth Hurley along with Estee Lauder, received the Humanitarian Award from BCRF for her singular role in raising global awareness of breast cancer, and a research grant was also announced in her name.
Catching up afterwards, alongside her dashing escorts close friend Patrick Cox and husband Arun Nayar, Elizabeth told me she was honoured at the accolade, made all the more poignant as she lost her own grandmother to breast cancer. She also confessed that she was still adjusting to her new midweek freedom following her son starting boarding school, while he had settled in to the new routine in no time! Estee Lauder Pink Ribbons are available nationwide while stocks last.
