Promotion: If you can’t treat yourself when you’re on holiday, when can you treat yourself?
What better way to indulge than in a relaxing spa? Of course, not all spas are equal – some have unique treatments, some offer a huge array of steam rooms. Few, though, can rival the Oasis Spas on board every P&O Cruises ship for the jaw-dropping views that create the background to your relaxation and treatments.
All the spas have large windows overlooking the ocean or the beautiful port towns your ship visits, so you can relax with an ever-changing view right in front of you. Many treatment rooms also offer large windows, allowing natural light to flood in. And P&O Cruises largest ship, Azura, boasts a private outdoor terrace with its own pool - you can even opt to enjoy a massage in one of the outdoor cabanas or balcony treatment rooms.
Better still, the Oasis Spas offer the cutting edge treatments and steam rooms usually found in high-end land-based spas. For a small fee, P&O Cruises passengers can indulge in all kinds of relaxation therapies – from body scrubs, oxygen facials, aromatherapy, reflexology, mud therapies and even acupuncture. The range of massages on offer is almost as long as the treatments available and includes aroma stone, Swedish, Sports and Balinese massages.
Additionally Arcadia, Azura and Ventura offer a thermal suite with cleansing steam rooms and sauna, tropical showers and heated benches. Arcadia also features a hydro-pool with soothing jets of water and waterbeds featuring air bubbles designed to relax you and soothe tired muscles – from personal experience, I can tell you these work perfectly!
The spa isn’t just about getting you relaxed and in the holiday mood though. The beauty experts on board will help you look preened and ready for that gala dinner or black and white ball. You can enjoy everything from a manicure or pedicure to a full haircut or restyling, detailed make-up tips and maybe a manicure along the way.
And men aren’t left out by any means. If aromatherapy or seaweed wraps don’t appeal, how about a professional double close shave, or an Elemis Urban Cleanse Facial to remove the remnants of everyday life? The hair stylists on board are experts in cutting men’s hair too, and can give you a quick trim or a complete cut.
If you’re a couple on board, there are a number of romantic spa experiences designed specifically for two. You could enjoy a couple’s massage where therapists work on the two of you at the same time – tandem stress relief. Or perhaps you’ll go for the Exotic Steam Rasul – adapted from an ancient Arabic cleansing ritual, this treatment involves applying organic muds to each other to purify and nourish the skin – a shower afterwards is included!
For those that like to relax in a more physical way, Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates classes are held in the fitness centre throughout the day. All instructors are fully trained and classes are open to participants of all ages and abilities. Or you could opt for a personal training session or nutritional consultation to kick-start a healthy lifestyle.
Prices for the Oasis Spa are very reasonable – with a day pass to the Thermal Suite on board Arcadia, Azura or Ventura costing from only £15, and a five day pass costing from £50. The Thermal Suites are open 8am and 8pm every day when you are at sea, and until 10pm on port days – perfect relaxation after a busy day exploring.
Treatments are very reasonable too, with massages starting at £69 for a 50 minute session. Men can get a luxurious double shave for £29 and a haircut from £19. A couples massage costs £139 for two, lasting 50 minutes. Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates classes cost just £7 for at 45 minute session. All treatments and passes can be bought on board at the spa concierge desk, as can many of the products used during treatment sessions.
