One Spa, Edinburgh
With so many outstanding spa hotels now offering day packages, you've got to be pretty special to really stand out. This one does because it ticks all the right boxes.
It's got a great gym, studio classes, rooftop hydropool and an infinity-edge swimming pool that's so beautiful, you won't want to get out of it. Its thermal suite (a selection of showers, steam rooms and saunas) is pretty impressive too. But best of all, unlike other day spas we've visited, this spa is so roomy (it's spread over three floors) that even when it's at its busiest, you won't really notice. The lovely floor-to-ceiling windows fill it full of light, too.
Special treatment: If you're feeling sluggish, try Revive, £165 for 130 minutes. It includes a body scrub, a session in the herb-infused 'mud chamber' and a face and back facial.
Our verdict: This is the kind of place you can spend hours and hours in. In fact, I wish I'd got there earlier to make more use of it.
