On your marks...

The days are getting longer, the weather's improving - you can't deny it, this is the best time of year to take up running.

And if you watched the 36,000 runners slog their way round the 26-mile Virgin London Marathon course on Sunday, maybe you've already decided today is the day to dust off your trainers and give it a go.

Zest's own London Marathon challenge runner, Ruth Emmett, hit her target, with a very good time of 4hrs 41 minutes in her first-ever marathon.

Ruth says, 'It was actually a lot more fun than I was expecting. Even when my iPod conked out and I lost my motivational music, the crowd support kept me going. I was overtaken by a lot of people at the start but I think I did the right thing going slow and steady- I didn't hit the wall at all and my worst medical problem was jelly legs after I crossed the line!'

Well done, Ruth! Read all about her training journey here.

New runners start here: this week's Expert clinic runs 2-3pm on Weds April 20th, with Zest magazine's fitness expert personal trainer Jon Stratford answering your questions about starting running. So whether you're a complete beginner or looking to take your training to the next level, get your questions answered here.

Plus check out our online training plans for every level from beginner to wannabe marathon runner.

If you're looking for more inspiration, see this month's issue of Zest magazine (May 2011) for a 30-page running special, with expert training plans from 5k to the full marathon.
