Are you ready for a half marathon?

So you've been running for a while, you're feeling fit and fabulous, you've got a 5K or two under your belt, and now you're wondering where to go next. If this sounds familiar, then now's the perfect time to sign up for a half marathon. At just over 13 miles, a half is a brilliant stepping-stone distance for enthusiastic runners to work towards, and it won't totally take over your life the way marathon training would. So if you've always admired the guts and determination of runners who enter a marathon, but can't quite imagine tackling 26 miles yourself, sign up for a half and you can get super fit and challenge yourself - and still have time to do more than just eat, sleep, work and run!

Better still, our easy-to-follow 12-week training plan will also help you burn off at least 1,250 calories a week, and up to a very impressive 2,400 as your training heats up. Which means you could shed about 7lb through the 12 weeks of training, without even having to diet!

What does the plan involve?

Our training plan, designed by a Bupa sports scientist and extracted from Zest's bestselling running book Running Made Easy, builds up gradually and keeps the focus firmly on what feels achievable and realistic. If you've got a solid fitness foundation and a few shorter 5km-to-10km races under your belt, it should feel like a challenge but certainly not an impossible one.
