Perhaps you've been inspired by our November winter running special. Or is it our keep the momentum campaign that's pushed you to the pavement to take up running? Whatever it was, we salute you! Now it's time to gear up.

Don't be put off by high-performance fabrics and new-age gadgets. Running apparel specialist Gilly Wight guides us through the three key parts to your kit that you simply can't do without - and all are relatively inexpensive.

'The crucial things are: the right footwear, the correct fitting sports bra and you've got to have the right socks,' says Gilly.

Once you’ve got these three things covered, Gilly suggests you can then start build a more technical kit bag around it and start to think about compression wear, base layers and waterproofs.
