Climate change is one of the toughest issues we face, but confronted with such a massive problem, it's tricky to know what we as individuals can do to make difference.

One step that the organisers of Climate Week 2012 (March 12-18) are urging us all to take is to cook at least one low-carbon meal this week. Do so, and you'll be both helping the planet and raising awareness of the issue of climate change.

Not sure how to make your menus eco-friendly and low-carbon? Try these four simple steps:

  1. Choose seasonal, organic fruit and veg
  2. Pick vegetarian options (eg tofu, Quorn) instead of meat
  3. Select locally-sourced British products and not imports
  4. Avoid highly processed ingredients
