Get involved, get fit, make friends, have fun: how to find out about club sports for women in your area
Winter may mark the end of tri season, but experts say now is the actually best time to embark on your first triathlon training plan.
According to Triathlete champ Annie Emmerson, starting now will ensure that by spring you’ll be at your peak and ready to take on your first tri challenge; 'It's important to plan your routes, rather than riding aimlessly to ensure you're getting fitter and preparing properly for your first tri'.
And if it's the gloomy weather, icy cold water and muddy running trails that are putting you off, fret no more; triathlon clubs don’t just train in the great outdoors. You can find groups at many local gyms, including David Lloyd who hold triathlon classes in clubs across the country where you can take part in a structured training programme run by British Triathlon-qualified coaches.
Triathlon England host a comprehensive list of Triathlon training groups, so wherever you are you can find a local club that will spur you on to keep up your training efforts - whatever the weather as lots use nearby pools and community gyms for training. So find your 2013 triathlon event, make the first mark on your new year calendar and start your training now. You'll be pleased you did when you stand on that start line come spring.
