1. MILK

Want to keep the weight off in the first place? Have a glass of lactose-rich milk. The complex carbs help keep insulin levels low, which stops your body storing fat.

2. SARDINES

Eating fish can keep you away from the biscuit barrel. It makes you more sensitive to the appetite-suppressing hormone leptin - and less likely to snack.

3. PINEAPPLE

Forget second helpings. Pineapple is a low-calorie fruit tasty enough for pudding - and makes you feel satisfied faster because it contains a digestive aid.

4. COFFEE

A natural stimulant, caffeine speeds up the rate at which your body uses energy, forcing you to burn more calories and break down fat in your body.

5. TURKEY

Turkey shouldn't just be for Christmas. It's a great source of lean protein and, as your body works harder to digest protein than carbs or fats, you'll boost your calorie burn in the process.

6. ENGLISH MUSTARD

This fiery sauce will kick-start your metabolism as well as your taste buds. Team English mustard with lean roast beef in a healthy, fat-fighting salad.

7. MISO SOUP

Made with seaweed, a bowl of miso a day can increase weight loss by 10%. Plus it gives you iodine, which keeps your metabolism ticking over nicely.

8. OLIVE OIL

Swap your creamy salad dressing for one made with olive oil as it's full of monounsaturates. When you work out, they help you break down fat faster.

9. CELERY

This is so fibrous, you'll use most of the calories digesting it. But as celery adds crunch and bulk to salads, soups and stews, you'll feel fuller.

Absolute nonsense. The only way to lose weight is to cut calories, and whole milk, sardines and olive oil aren't going to help you do that.

Hi Sara, although this is true, eating olive oil and sardines in moderation, eg, watching the calories for the rest of the day or at least rest of the meal ensures you get essential oils into your body that help your skin from ageing and have lots of other health benefits. Emma

The article doesn't say it's 'whole' milk - i drink a lot of skimmd milk and swear by it for protein as well as calcium.

Thanks Emma, but the article isn't about skin ageing or other health benefits. It's about weight loss, so the suggestions are misleading.
