5 ways to avoid catching a cold

Best ways to keep yourself well this winter

Swine flu

They may seem obvious, but simple steps can help keep you free from colds throughout the winter months.

1. HYGIENE: Wash your hands frequently. Cold viruses live for up to three hours outside the body so make sure to wash your hands before touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Keep a hand santizer spray in your bag and use it frequently.

2. SLEEP: Getting less than seven hours a night sleep leaves you three times more susceptible to catch something nasty.

3. DIET: Eating well with plenty of fruit and vegetables will help keep your immune system strong.

4. DRINKS: Iif you do begin to feel a tickle in the throat or the beginnings of a cold, having a hot drink may help to improve your nasal airflow and give relief from a cough, sore throat, runny nose or sneezing.

5. WARMTH: Dress sensibly. Wear warm, waterproof clothing. Getting cold and wet will leave your body vulnerable to attack.
