A Pilates-based resistance workout using the 'reformer machine'.
Long, lean muscles.
'I'm a relative Pilates newbie, but I know the basics so thought this would be a doddle,' says Elin. 'Oh how wrong I was! The reformer machine - a bench with straps, weights, bars, levers and pulleys attached - looked more like a torture device than a piece of exercise equipment. But I was assured that its novel design would challenge my muscles much more than doing equipment-free lunges, squats and bicep curls. Fortunately Beautcamp's classes are small so the instructor could give us individual attention as we worked through each move. After an hour of serious stretching my muscles were shaking. But I can definitely see how you'd get quick results from a few sessions per week.'
Beautcamp Pilates Studios, London, www.beautcamppilates.co.uk, starting from £14 per class.
