Need a goal.. there's 22 weeks until Christmas
Over the past few years I have done various faddy diets/ toyed with exercise etc, also have just had a baby! This has culminated in me being about 3 stone overweight, bit unhealthy, not having much energy and a negative self image. Now that I have my son, I feel very keen to drop the pounds to feel more confident and healthier.
I am one of those people who CANNOT work unless under pressure / have a goal and need a lot of motivation and encouragement. So I thought the best thing to do would be to set Christmas as a target. I am aware that to lose 3 stone in 5 months may be ambitious and it may not happen, but I definitely need a kick start into this, and even losing 2 stone would be better than nothing.
Was thinking of investing in a Zumba dvd for when I need to stay at home?
Was thinking of keeping food diary ?
Running around the nearby park?
Drinking more water?
They would be my starting points, increase exercise, get into some better food habits, (It's all easy in theory HA HA). Anyone feel in a similar boat/ need some motivation/ support for losing weight?
Shell x x x ( I am 26)
Well, didn't get off to a flying start, had mastitis over the weekend horrible horrible horrible! So had to go to docs for antibiotics. Feeling much better now I have caught up on a bit of sleep (baby allowing!) but haven't felt like eating much at all.
Tried to make a conscious effort to make more salad etc which is what you want anyway in this weather today. First weigh in will be on Saturday so going to try to try to eat some better balanced meals until then! Next week: EXERCISE.
I'm going on holiday in Feb and want to look fab for it
So how about we motivate each other? with weekly reports on how we are doing and any tips/ secrets that we come across?
Hey Faye, that would be fabulous! Where are you going on holiday? That is a great motivator. How much do you feel you have to lose?
Well twas first weigh in today... very diappointing 300gram gain! I thinkhaving mastitis and comfort eating and the lack of exercise did it! So... TOOK THE BULL BY THE HORNS today and joined the gym down the road. My goal for next Sat is to have lost 3 pounds, and to have at least done 3 separate, decent exercise sessions. I have my gym induction booked and love swimming so I think thats a realistic target for this week!
Disappointed but certainly not disheartened, definitely more determined!
Read the top ten best workout dvds of 2010 on the Zest website, picked out PUMP IT UP (not a fan of dancey type music but I think its fab for a workout) and got it on ebay for a fiver, so going to do that this eve !Anyone got any other fitness dvds that they would recommend?
Shells, i would love to lose a similar amount to you, but would be just as happy losing 2 stone- as long as i get rid of this belly really its all about feeling good for me and looking healthy, so although weight is important, so are energy levels and if i can fit into my jeans
this week i am trying to eat proper breakfasts and not snack on double deckers at work
i really like the 5 to 20 minute workout dvds, theres loads of them and im pretty sure you can pick them up in Morrisons
Yes, I agree it is just as important to having more energy and feeling healthier rather than just the weight loss. I guess they, along with better self esteem, they are all by- products of having a healthier lifestyle.
It's good you are focusing on breakfasts and not eating chocolate, I think its much easier introducing a couple of new habits per week or even fortnight. After Saturdays weigh in I have had a kick up the bum and so am focusing on increasing exercise and reducing snacking. So far, its going ok.
Currently using Jillian Michaels 30 day shred workout dvd. 20 min workout, 3 different levels. There are 3 circuits in each level consisting 3 mins strength, 2 mins cardio, 1 min abs in each circuit. Sounds easy but it's not. Great workout in a short time.
She always seems pretty dedicated and good on Biggest Loser, might invest in that, thanks for the tip! x
This looks like a good detox to do to kick start weight loss/ focus your will power and determination to succeed. Definitely could do with cutting out alcohol and coffee for a couple of weeks!
Second weigh in today, lost 4 pounds! Wahhooo!
Going to the gym and not snacking on crappy foods is paying off!
fantastic! well done Shell! big pat on the back!
Hi Shells..Well done on the 4lb loss I use myfitnesspal.com to help track what I eat. For your age/weight/activity level it says how many kcals you need daily so you log your meals and it keeps track of what you've used. It allows you to log weight and measurements too so you knw how you're doing. You can log excercise too and it works out the extra kcals you need to fuel it.I've been using it for a month to help maintain weight and have lost 4lbs Excercise: look for 'different' and interesting types. I have friends who swear by the 30 day shred but I do roller derby (burns 400kcal/hr and is great fun!) and pole fitness for toning and core work.Best wishes for your journey xx
Ooh roller derby that sounds really exciting, I would like to try that! Thanks for the best wishes.
Todays thought: motivation. It can be so hard to say no to the biscuits in the cupboard, or easy to go out and buy a bar of chocolate. Will power is a fascinating thing, sometimes you can have loads and sometimes none at all.
At the moment I feel I have quite a bit of will power, I think keeping your goal in mind is a big motivating factor. !
Weigh in day today.... haven't lost any but maintained last weeks loss... so not too disappointed. Only managed to get to the gym once this week so think i had better try harder this week! I have been eating well but have had quite a few glasses of wine spread over the week.... a real habit i need to break. I really enjoy one whilst I iave got music blaring whilst cooking tea. So maybe there is another thing I should bear in mind this week.
On a different note, did anyone watch that Horizon BBC docu about health benefits of fasting? i.e against cancers and heart disease. I thought it was really fascinating.
How is everyone elses weight loss journeys going? Faye, have you managed to resist the double deckers? x
hi Shells, yes i have been very good and this week im please to report that i've lost 4 1/2 lbs!!!!
maintaining the loss from last week is better than putting any weight on so dont be too hard on yourself!
keep up the good work!
WOW that is amazing, well done Faye!!!
I felt spurred on after the weigh in on Sat, and now I feel even more spurred on!
Have been a good girl since Sat, been to the gym, been swimming and doing Zumba tonight for the first time! Going to put my uncoordinated self to the test. xx
Thanks it is a big motivator isnt it! Zumba is ace, hope you enjoy it!
Weigh in last sat, lost a pound
Finding motivation hard this week. Have been to the gym yesterday and going Zumba tonight but I just feel like stuffing my face :S ugh.
1st week, lost 4 1/2 pounds
2nd week put on 1/2 pound
this week, to be reported tommorow!!!
think its 14 weeks til Christmas, think, if we only lose 1 pound per week, thats a stone by Christmas
