Hi, I've had a bottle of Sea Kelp tablets from Holland and Barrett for a while now. I occassionally took them in the past but I'm not very good at remembering to take vitamins e.t.c. in the morning.

I've recently started taking them again and have tried to read up on the benefits but all reviews are basically just saying what they have in them. Has anyone tried sea kelp to boost weight loss before? I know they're supposed to increase your metabolism and have read on a few things that they help with hair and nail growth but there's no personal reviews...

yes sea kelp does help with weight loss - i was taking high strength sea kelp for about a month (500mg) and they really helped me with my weight loss and I felt less tired.  I haven't ever noticed an improvement in my hair, which is a shame as I would love it to grow (be healthy) but my nails are in good condition.

i would say to keep taking them and you should see results!

Sea kelp helps to improve thyroid function, so would only help weight loss if you have an underactive thyroid. It is also very high in minerals such as iodine and calcium, so is good for your immune system, digestion and the health of your skin hair and nails. If you do have a thyroid problem you should ask your doctor before taking the tablets though. Hope this helps.

I agree with Gemma412, You said absolutely right. Sea kelp in reduceing weigth and burn fat quiclky. I also sea that it build body stamina and strong body muslces. But with this, you have to do some meaning ful exercies and get more benefits.

can i suggest Ms Huff that you read up on the effects of iodine defiency, particularly in women. you might not be so scathing then about the benifits of taking sea kelp. Especially the most recent research.

Kelp is rich in iodine! .

I don't know about the tablets, and it may be an old wives tale, but in japan they eat a lot of kelp (konbu) and they say that's why they keep their hair colour longer! Stave off the greys!! Also If you get the actual seaweed (health food shops or goodnessdirect.com sell it - search konbu or kombu) and use a strip of it when cooking beans it reduces the uh, gaseous nature of beans! Not sure if this could help with weight loss but you do feel less bloated! I also like to cook brown rice with a strip of konbu in, gives a nice flavour! Just don't ever add salt! It's especially good if you can't have cow's milk which I hear is the way most people get iodine?

Where else does it come from? Maybe people should worry about deficiency!

I've been overweight since I moved to US from Japan. Very recently, I start using dried Kelp for soup stock. Also I purchase expensive very high quality dried kelp jut for eating like beef jerky. It's really testey. But if I eat too much of it I have gas problem so be careful.

I have been taking Life Plan Sea Kelp tablets on and off for 10 years. I took the tablets everyday for 2 years before my wedding to help with hair growth. The results were outstanding - my hair was thicker, grew twice as fast and was in amazing condition. I kept a hair diary to monitor if there was any change and there was a definite obvious difference. My nails were stronger and whiter. I cannot comment on weight loss - I'm fortunately not overweight and have a high metabolism anyway, however in the first few weeks of taking them I did feel trimmer around my belly. I have recently started taking them again and keeping another hair diary ready for my wedding in 4 years time. Having proven that it works before, I'm interested to see the results again after a 2 year break off of the tablets.

Hey there, I've just bought myself some from Holland and Barrett.
I'm currently working out 5x a week as I love being fit & healthy, don't necessarily want to loose any more weight, just define myself if that makes sense.

The reason I want to take these is because my hair is a NIGHTMARE! It just doesn't seem to want to grow and can get damaged so quickly, Iv been taking 'hair food' by H&B and also doing hair masks etc.

If any one has had a benefit with their hair can they let me know please

thank you.

I would imagine that these tablets only really work best for weight loss when combined with a proper nutricious diet and a reasonable amount of excercise. I am pretty sure if it was as simple as taking a few tablets to lose weight it certainly would not be so cheap and plenty more people would know about it. I wouldn't like anyone to get their hopes up and think sea kelp will solve all their weight problems but hey, I could be wrong. With the hair and nails, that sounds more realistic. I will give them a go and find out for myself!!

I'm selling the kelp oven baked snack ready on facebook if anyone is interested in buying this superfood. And yes it does work.
