Q. I’M A SIZE 10 BUT A CUP SIZE 32E. I HAVE TERRIBLE BACKACHE AND EXERCISE IS PAINFUL. I’M CONSIDERING A BREAST REDUCTION, COULD I GET ONE ON THE NHS?

A. Your GP can recommend a reduction based on the pain you’re experiencing and the psychological impact, but whether the NHS funds your surgery is up to your local primary care trust. If you choose to pay privately, get advice from your GP anyway. You wouldn’t have your hair cut by someone picked at random out of the phone book, yet you’d be amazed how many people find a medical specialist that way. Even if your doctor is not able to get your procedure done on the NHS, they can and should provide support. There are always risks with surgery so research and talk to the experts.
