Get active on a Greek watersports holiday

Looking for a Greek family watersports holiday? Try these ideas from family holiday specialist Mark Warner.

Best for...Sailing

The Grecian coastline provides some stunning sailing opportunities for both children and adults. Try the Lakitira Beach Resort on the island of Kos: a RYA-recognised sailing resort which caters for sailors of every level.

Free group sailing clinics are spread over six days of the week and you and your family can gain official qualifications through one of ten RYA courses on offer.

Best for...Scuba and snorkelling

The perfect way to build children's confidence in the water is to take them snorkelling through rock pools; older kids enjoy the exhilarating experience of scuba diving. Greece offers clear waters that are ideal for exploring caves and shipwrecks, and spotting a wide variety of marine life.

At the San Agostino Beach Resort, in the Peloponnese, a team of qualified PADI diving instructors can  teach scuba divers of all levels from age eight.

Adults can take free 'discover scuba diving' sessions, which take place in the swimming pool and offer a gentle introduction to the underwater world. Once you've learnt the basics you can progress to courses and further qualifications. Experienced divers enjoy a range of open water trips.

Best for...Windsurfing

Windsurfing is a good activity for the whole family, and a great way of keeping fit - think of all that climbing back onto the board - so no chance of holiday weight gain with this watersport.

The beachside Helona Hotel, a luxury resort on the island of Kos, provides ideal conditions for windsurfers and a 5-star setting for relaxing when you're not behind the sail.

Guests at Helona enjoy free group tuition and RYA courses. RYA Youth Scheme classes enable children to learn the basics and develop their skills supervised by the fully qualified waterfront team.
